Where It Began

Founded as Bambuzit, the business began with a simple idea: to introduce natural materials better suited to our climate and explore how they could be applied in architecture and design. The early days were shaped by creativity, experimentation, and a belief that bamboo could redefine Australian interiors and outdoor spaces.

Early Sustainability Leadership

1980s–1990s

Early Sustainability Leadership

Long before sustainability became a mainstream conversation, we were championing renewable materials and ethical supply chains. During this period, we opened a retail shop on Elizabeth Street and expanded our range to include hemp, seagrass, rattan and woven panels, many of which remain part of our offering today.

DIY Boom and Design Makeovers

2000s

DIY Boom and Design Makeovers

As DIY renovation shows exploded on television, Australians began looking for simple ways to transform their homes and outdoor spaces and were A regular feature on Burkes backyard, Better Homes And Gardens Renovation Rescue, Backyard Blitz .This period saw our products expand nationally, as bamboo became a go-to material for creating atmosphere, warmth and character with ease.

A New Era of Design Leadership

2010s

A New Era of Design Leadership

With architect Jennifer Snyders at the helm, House of Bamboo entered a period of transformation. Engineered bamboo was introduced to Australia for the first time, supported by extensive on-ground research across Vietnam and China about harvesting, manufacturing and emerging technologies. This decade marked a shift toward more contemporary, design-led solutions. We developed new product lines using advanced manufacturing techniques and achieved international certifications.

At House of Bamboo, my goal is to rethink how sustainable materials are used in contemporary architecture. Materials should perform beautifully, minimise impact, and last. Bamboo sits at the core of our work, supported by renewable materials that enable circular design - balancing craft, innovation, and the way Australians build.
